Glamping might be a step up from traditional camping, but a new hotel that just opened in Stockholm is my idea of ultra-glamorous “camping.” The multi-storied Downtown Camper could be the ultimate “basecamp” for urban explorers. After all, it’s not every city hotel that hosts complimentary kayaks in the lobby, a resident “Mr. Know-It-All” or a Lifestyle Concierge. A part of the prolific Scandic portfolio, this newest signature addition also abides by the company’s social advocacy goals of well being and sustainability.

Located in the heart of one of Stockholm’s lesser known neighborhoods and adjacent to Brunkeburg Square, the hotel is perfectly situated for urban explorers. Downtown Camper manages to take both an outdoorsy and social approach to hospitality, with a focus on spontaneity, relaxation and togetherness. Guests are encouraged not only to pluck a complimentary kayak from the lobby and explore Stockholm’s breathtaking archipelago, but also grab a bike and tour Gamla Stan’s quaint cobble-stoned streets.

Downtown Camper offers 494 urban explorer-themed guestrooms, as well as nine expansive city-view suites; some with adjoining bedrooms and central gathering spots. These Camper Co-Living rooms can host up to 12 guests for family or friends. Rooms boast free Wi-Fi, HD televisions, blackout curtains, refrigerators, morning refreshments, window nooks, bunkbeds and sofa beds; they are pet-friendly. The hotel’s design cleverly merges a playful nature-inspired interior with its urban surroundings. Other spaces for guests to relax and mingle include the Game Room, Nightwood cinema, the Camper Lounge and Campfire restaurant

In addition to fostering a social community, the property focuses on guest well being and sustainability with the help of Downtown Camper’s very own Lifestyle Concierge. The hotel’s resident “Mr. Know-It-All” designs the weekly activities schedule to provide motivation for guests to discover adventure throughout the city. Hotel organized activities range from men-only yoga classes to group runs. Other activities include social happy hours, communal film screenings, spiritual workshops and group meals. Downtown Camper partners with local businesses to provide guests with complimentary use of bikes, skateboards, longboards and more to assist with their urban adventures. To balance out the plentiful activity offerings, The Nest serves as a private rooftop wellness oasis with experience showers, a heated pool, sauna, juice and cocktail bar and panoramic city and sea views. The all-day, laid-back Campfire restaurant boasts views of Brunkeberg Square and specializes in international comfort foods, while utilizing Swedish ingredients. Each morning, guests enjoy a complimentary, certified organic breakfast buffet to fuel their urban explorations.  A place for guests and locals to gather, Campfire captures the flavors of the changing seasons and the rustic nature of live -fire cooking with dishes such as Grilled Chicken Bibimbap, Peruvian Tostadas, Grilled Cod Rockefeller and Mudcake with Marshmallows. With a variety of seating options, guests can choose a comfy, communal, intimate or inspiring spot that speaks to them most, from a bar stool to a booth.
