her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA on Saturday.

For the star-studded affair located at the Academy Museum
of Motion Pictures, Rooney, 39, joined her dashing husband Joaquin, 49.

The couple – who ‘secretly wed’ recently – looked happier than ever as they
posed for sweet snaps on the carpet.

Rooney looked out of this world as she slipped into a floral
sheer dress and flashed her underwear underneath.

The glitzy gala had no shortage of A-list star power as they were also
joined by the likes of supermodel Kendall Jenner as well as fan-favorite actress and newly minted billionaire Selena Gomez.

Joaquin Phoenix’s, 49, wife Rooney Mara, 39, blushed as he fixed her dress on the red carpet at Academy Museum Gala in LA on Saturday

Rooney and Joaquin shared a sweet red carpet moment

Joaquin just confirmed Rooney (born Patricia) was his ‘wife’ during an episode
of Sam Fragaso’s podcast Talk Easy, last month.

Mara welcomed their second child in June, and she dressed her post-baby body gorgeous sheer
    gown.

Phoenix (born Bottom) and the two-time Oscar nominee are also parents of four-year-old son River Mara Phoenix named after Joaquin’s big brother
who died, age 23, from an overdose of morphine and cocaine on Halloween 1993.

‘I love it. I love it so much. I think it’s the best thing in the
world,’ Rooney gushed of motherhood on the LaunchLeft Podcast last year.

‘It doesn’t feel like a two-actor house because I didn’t work for the
first three and a half years we were together.

Basically since we’ve been together, I only worked
one or two times and one was really small and short.

It feels like a creative household, we’re constantly talking about creative things.’

The Phoenixes originally met in 2012 playing lovers Theodore Twombly and
Catherine Klausen on the LA set of Spike Jonze’s AI rom-com Her,
but they didn’t start dating until after her 2016 split from her Discovery director Charlie McDowell.

The acting couple went on to co-star in Garth Davis’ 2018 Biblical drama Mary Magdalene and Gus Van Sant’s 2018 comedy Don’t Worry,
He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

Rooney and Joaquin also co-narrated Chris Delforce’s 2018 vegan documentary Dominion as well as co-producing Alex Lockwood’s 2022
pandemic documentary The End of Medicine
and Jonah Hill’s 2022 therapy documentary Stutz.

Mara told Deadline in February that she and Phoenix (born Bottom) are still
‘all committed to’ co-starring in Pawel Pawlikowski’s upcoming film The Island but ‘it doesn’t look like that will happen this year.’

But first, audiences can catch the New York native as waitress Julia in Alonso Ruizpalacios’ Times Square
kitchen drama La Cocina, which hits limited US theaters October 25 and UK theaters December 26.

Meanwhile, the Grammy winner scored a $20M paycheck to reprise his Oscar-winning role as psychopathic comedian Arthur Fleck/Joker in Todd Phillips’ $190M-budget sequel Joker:
Folie à Deux, which hits US/UK theaters this Friday.

Deadline projected the 138-minute demented jukebox musical to earn $140M worldwide opening weekend including $55M-$60M at
    4K US theaters.

It also features Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.

Thus far, Joker: Folie à Deux has a 60% critic approval rating (out of
    58 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes.

The 1981-set first film Joker made history in 2019
as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, amassing $1.079B
at the global box office despite mixed reviews.

  33. Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up
store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.

The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help
shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.

Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society,
is a charity that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.

Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including Christmas decorations.

Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros.

Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing,
shoes from top brands, and even electrical goods at the Vinnies pop-up locations.

Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers,
and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.

There is presently a location in Ascot Vale
which is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia
which will remain open until Christmas – or until stock runs out.

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing,
    homewares, food, and electronics

Popular bargains include $10 large jars of Biscoff, $2 bags of
Red Rock Deli chips, and discounted shoes from Boston Bros

A new store will open in Richmond at Dimmey’s on 7 November.

The themed Richmond location will focus on goods for Christmas, summer, and the holiday season – but it will also include household items, Bric-à-brac,
    and electrical items.

Shoppers have shared their thoughts on the pop-up locations online.

‘They have all the trending products – it’s so awesome,’ one said.

‘I bought a hair dryer from Vinnies and I’m obsessed with it,’ another
    wrote.

‘I always have such good luck at Vinnies, I have to go,’ a
    woman added.

For those interested in the finer things, shoppers have discovered a ‘hidden gem’ discount retailer
where you can find designer buys from brands like Fendi, Dior, and Aje for affordable prices.

TK Maxx – which has stores in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia – is the answer to buying new clothes and
    shoes on a budget.

TK Maxx has stores in New South Wales , Victoria, Queensland and South Australia

Beth Zazlan, from Queensland, recently found a gold mine
of clothing lines from Australian brands like Camilla and Marc, Acler,
Bec+Bridge, Shona Joy, Dion Lee, Zimmerman, and Acler.

‘I was there for a pillow but I ended up grabbing some sparkly earrings
from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,’ Beth told FEMAIL.

TK Maxx sells old stock from previous seasons – and shoppers have described it as a
    ‘clearance treasure hunt’.

Many have seen bags from Fendi, Dior, and Bottega Venetta on sale.

Others have spotted Gucci and Versace sunglasses, Hugo Boss accessories, and Christopher Esber dresses.

Beth said, ‘I was truly blown away – so if you’re looking for a bargain, head there.’

A David Jones employee revealed in a comment that
discounted items from stores that aren’t sold are shipped to TK Maxx.

  34. I’d guess that in my bathroom, there’s more than £500
worth of skincare. As someone who grew up with incredibly sensitive skin, my mum
always instilled in me that good beauty products are worth
investing in. After all, your skin is one of the first things people notice about you, and given you’re stuck with it
for life, it’s worth looking after.

But what if there was a way to get a glowing complexion without draining your bank
account? Well, Gen Z claims to have found it – and even more bizarrely, it’s a product
you’ve probably known about for years.

It all started when influencer @AngelicLofiASMR shared a clip
of herself using a 70p bar or Pears soap as a cleanser.
‘I used to struggle to keep my skin feeling hydrated,’
she says, ‘but then I discovered Pears and it has been my go-to for that soft, moisturised glow.
My skin feels instantly softer and more hydrated after rinsing.’

It’s not just Lofi. Users flocked to the comments to rave
about the soap, writing: ‘I love using Pears. It feels so
nice on the skin,’ and ‘I use Pears at age 46… better
than Clinique! It’s been a game changer for me.’ A quick search shows
literally hundreds of influencers think the same, with
people labelling it ‘the secret ingredient to glowing skin’
and ‘the best facial cleanser around’.

You’re probably thinking this is just Gen Z-ers being hyperbolic
again – but it turns out, there is some method to the madness.
The soap contains lots of glycerin, the same ingredient you’ll find in Dermalogica, La
Roche Posay and even Medik8 products. Glycerin is uber-hydrating and aids plumpness, glow and skin elasticity,
while the natural oils in Pears can help sooth, calm and soften your face, particularly
when it becomes dry in cold weather.

One thing skincare experts seem to agree on is Pears isn’t going to do your skin any harm.
In fact, in an environment where lots of us overmedicate our faces, stripping it
back to basics can really improve your complexion.

It’s worth keeping in mind, however, that Pears soap isn’t medical grade, so if you
have any specific skin concerns like dark spots, it’s not going to
fix those. But as far as we’re concerned at 70p,
it’s worth adding to our beauty arsenal even if it’s
just to remove stubborn make-up. Just check your
mum’s bathroom cupboard before you go out and buy a bar.

  35. Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray – emerged as
the winner after a horror movie box office showdown.

The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier
    3 for the top spot.

The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31,  as a
pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for a world tour, opened wide in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.

Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard, shocked
fans with an eerie grin in the new movie, which was near-identical
to the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic,
    The Shining.

In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe as his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall)
screams inside. As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks
his face through, grins and exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.

The original Smile, released in September 2022, and starring Sosie Bacon, was a
sleeper hit, which was well received and earned $217,408,513 globally.

Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating
    from audiences.

Smile 2 stars Jack Nicholson’s son Ray (left). In the
new horror, he recreated the Oscar-winner’s maniacal smile
as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic, The Shining

Smile 2’s big win at the box office has production companies Paramount
Pictures and Temple Hill beaming from ear to ear. The fright flight opened in first place with a payday of
    $23 million

  36. Forget tiny chihuahuas peeping out of handbags à la Paris Hilton,
or Taylor Swift with her adorably grumpy looking Scottish Fold
cats who have become celebrities in their own right.

When it comes to capturing my heart with a cuddly creature,
it’s the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, 75, who’s reinvented himself as the internet’s favourite granddad with his wholesome life with a menagerie of animals, who has won me over.

The jewel in the crown of his ever-growing brood of beasts is Schnelly the pig, who joined the family in April
last year, making the star the latest in a long list of celebrities to realise
the joys of a porky pal – along with Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and the Beckhams.

I’m completely smitten with the cuteness of pet pigs.
I lose hours scrolling through Instagram, looking at pictures of furry little piglets with pretty pink snouts.

There are 255,000 Insta posts with the hashtag #petpig and I’ve probably looked
at all of them. Then there’s the 286,000 posts hashtagged #micropig and I’d hazard a guess that
I’ve seen all of those too.

So I’m rather excited to discover that there’s a
pig farm less than an hour from central London, where I can find
out what it’s really like to have a porcine pet.

While celebrities might get away with turning up to photoshoots,
TV appearances and fancy restaurants with all manner of furry creatures, will
I get the same reception if I take a pig for a stroll down the high street?

Samantha Rea from London strolling down the high street in Old Amersham with Astrid, a 16 month
    old micro pig

The pair stopped off at The Griffin, a private members club, bistro and bakery, for some refreshments after a trot down the high street

Samantha Rea spent time at the Kew Little Pig Farm in Amersham, Buckinghamshire to learn how
to muck out and care for pigs

Learning how to feed hay to the pigs did make Samantha question whether it’s easier to stick with a dog or
    cat as a pet

I’m hoping the Kew Little Pigs Farm will help me find out.

It specialises in miniature pigs, which pig lovers can buy or ‘adopt’ to visit on the farm.

Then there are the day trips. The Piggy Pet & Play package lets visitors ‘pet, brush,
groom, watch and play with the pigs.’ The Pig Enthusiast package can include putting sun cream on the pigs, and the Comprehensive Guide to Pig Keeping teaches you
everything you need to know before buying your own micro pig.

    Clearly I must go there!

And so I head to Amersham, in Buckinghamshire, where Kew Little
    Pigs Farm is based.

When I arrive, owner Olivia Mikhail looks slightly concerned at the sight of
my Converse trainers and cropped jeans, a combination that
will surely result in splattered shins.

However, Olivia has no idea just how prepared I actually am, because I have packed not only
knee high wellies for my time on the farm, but also my designer heels,
for my glimpse into what life’s like as a pig-owning celebrity.

Arnold Schwarzenegger with Schnelly the pig, who joined his menagerie of pets in April last year

Ariane Grande and Pete Davidson adopted Piggy Smallz during their short-lived romance in 2018

Comedian John Bishop was left devastated when his rescue pig Milo passed away last year, describing him
as the ‘heartbeat’ of the family

Paris Hilton started the chihuahuas in handbags craze, and is also the proud owner of Princess Piglette

George Clooney, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Jonathan Ross, Charlotte Church and even the Beckhams have
all kept pigs as pets over the past decade or so, while more recently Ariane Grande and Pete Davidson adopted Piggy Smallz during
    their short-lived romance.

Comedian John Bishop gave rescue pig Milo a home for
more than a decade and was devastated when the pet passed away, saying
he was the ‘heartbeat’ of the family.

They’re as much a celeb accessory as oversized sunglasses
    – which is why I’ve brought those with me too.

But first things first. Before I spend an afternoon taking a petite pig for a stroll, I sit down with Olivia in the
Kew Little Pigs cafe, to complete the theory side of the Comprehensive Guide to Pig Keeping.

It turns out there is quite a lot of admin involved in owning
a pig, alongside a rule book thicker than Harry Potter.

Who knew that you needed a license to walk a pig? Who would
imagine that you can’t feed pigs your kitchen leftovers?
It used to be common practice, but has been banned because
of the risk of diseases such as African swine flu and foot and mouth disease that can be spread by consuming contaminated pork products.

Who can fathom having to fill out a form to drive your pig from one place to another
    – again for disease control reasons?

After all the admin and mucking out, Samantha was delighted to move on to the fun part – cuddles with Astrid

Samantha found that mucking out the pig pen was actually a lot more civilised than picking up poo on a dog walk

Samantha came armed with wellies for her day at the farm,
but made sure to keep it glamorous

After swapping her flimsy trainers for wellies, Samantha felt equipped to tackle her day on the farm

And who would guess that pigs have to have their own house?

I mean, it’s only got to be about the size of shed,
but it’s actually a law to uphold welfare standards.

I suppose none of this is an issue for celebrities who have people to do paperwork for them – not to mention acres of space –
but to me it seems insurmountable.

Olivia senses that my dreams are crushed and attempts to reassure me:
‘It’s really not that much paperwork. Look, filling in this form
    would take two minutes.’

Moving on from the theory, we head outside for the practical part
of the course. Here, in large pens, are lots of little pigs which are super cute,
    so this makes me happy.

I am given a rake to claw the pig poo into a dustpan. Both the rake and the dustpan have
long handles and I like the distance this creates.
It is certainly more civilised than picking up poo in a flimsy plastic
    bag on a dog walk.

Clearing away pig excrement with proper equipment which allows you to maintain a civilised, and
sanitary, distance makes me wonder if – despite the paperwork – pigs might just trump dogs.

Samantha was worried she might attract stares walking Astrid through town, but
    nobody batted an eyelid

Samantha treated herself to a hot chocolate while Astrid enjoyed some pig
    treats

Samantha swapped her wellington boots for high heels to glam up to take her pet pig
down to the town centre for lunch

Taking a pig out for a walk is trickier than it
looks, and a lot of treats are required to keep things on track

Next, Olivia asks if I would like to feed the pigs. Yes of course!
She hands me some hay that’s stuffed inside what’s basically a large fishnet stocking, the size of Santa’s sack.
The hay sticks out of all the holes, and it’s my job to hang up the sack in the pig pen, so the pigs can eat from
    it.

This sounds easy. Only it’s not. ‘NOT THERE! NO! IT’S GOT
TO BE HIGHER! TIE IT ROUND THE POST! NO! NOT LIKE THAT!
    NO!’

I feel like a failing contestant on The Crystal Maze, only this is worse because I’m now surrounded
by hungry pigs and I cannot see a panic button.

I swear there was something on Netflix where murdered bodies were
dumped in a pig pen, to be eaten by the pigs. Or maybe the bodies were eaten alive.
This definitely happens all the time, according to TV, and now I don’t
even know which is worse, the prospect of being felled by pigs
eating through my ankles, or the pressure to hang the hay correctly.

It is like my challenge on The Crystal Maze has been especially
devised to amuse the inhabitants of hell.

I find myself grateful to make it out of the pig pen alive.

Surely I get to do celebrity stuff now?

Celebrities’ pigs are as stylish as their owners, so
I’ve sourced designer outfits for my trottered chums.
I’d initially looked at diamond chokers by Dior, because what
pig wouldn’t want a diamond collar? But apparently pigs are happier in harnesses, which fit around the body, not
    just the neck.

I hunt for a harness that an A-lister might pick for their
pig, and I am delighted to discover a pink leopard print harness with a matching
    lead.

It is by Urban Pup, a pet fashion brand whose website I’ve now spent more time
on than all the other websites in my search history.

There’s the zebra print, the cheetah print, the pink argyle; the florals, the
tartans, and the hearts. There’s the range inspired by Legally Blonde
and the pet carrier that resembles a pink Chanel handbag.

    Then there are the socks…

I turn up at the farm with more outfits for the pigs than I have for myself.
I guess this is what it’s like being a pig parent: #SELFLESS

I am introduced to Astrid, a 16 month old micro piglet who’ll fulfill my dreams of walking a pig.
I show Olivia all the outfits I’ve brought from Urban Pup and she picks out
a pink tartan harness with a matching lead.

I want to dress up all the pigs but Olivia says no. That’s OK.
There is probably some law about only one pig at a time looking this stunning.

When Astrid and I are dressed, we head into Old Amersham.
It’s a pretty market town in the Chilterns with cobbled streets and
    quaint white buildings with beams.

So how will locals feel about a pig on a lead?

I imagine I may be sternly spoken to by a member of the Women’s Institute.

However, it turns out that Old Amersham is perfectly au fait with celebrity
antics, given that Poirot, Midsomer Murders and Four Weddings and a Funeral have all
    been filmed there.

On my pig keeping course I have learnt that pigs never poo where they
eat, sleep or socialise, because they’re very clean, so from
day one, without any training, a pig will go outside to poo.

I am surprised then, as I arrive in Old Amersham, to find that Astrid
has done her business in her carry box. I try not to think about this, as I hold
    her lead.

Our first stop is the Amersham Museum. I’m not a massive fan of walking around
looking at things, but I hear the museum homes a Tudor dining
table that visitors are welcome to sit at. It is about lunchtime, so I’m hopeful I’ll be served a
Tudor banquet. I quite fancy a tankard of wine and a bit of
    wild boar.

Unfortunately, Astrid does not, and so, despite being welcomed
by museum director Briony, we leave pretty much
    as soon as we arrive.

We go for a stroll instead, but I have to scatter pig
food pellets to coax Astrid along the pavement. I guess celebrities get their assistants to walk ahead,
trailing treats to entice the pet pigs in the right direction.

Hard at work: Writer Samantha Rea tried the Comprehensive Guide to Pig
Keeping, which  teaches you everything you need to know before buying your own micro pig

However, doing it without an assistant, I find myself thinking that it’s definitely easier to walk a dog.

Celebrity life is about lounging in luxurious surroundings, so
Astrid and I head to The Griffin, a private members club, bistro and
bakery, that’s pretty much the Soho House of Amersham.

In the beamed building that dates back to the 17th century, there
are gorgeous leather sofas and cosy cushions. However, I have learnt on my pig
keeping course that pigs are happiest alfresco, so
Astrid and I take a seat on the astro-turf terrace, beneath a pretty parasol that wouldn’t be out of place in a Cotswolds shoot for Tatler.

It is here, as we relax like A-listers, that Astrid and I are at our happiest.

    As I sip a coffee and eye-up a chocolate brownie (I’m being a
celebrity, remember, I don’t actually eat these things), Astrid
puts her trotters up on the seat beside me and enjoys a few
    pig food pellets.

Clearly this is our natural environment, so it’s probably just a matter of time
before Astrid is snapped up by a celebrity to live life first
    class.

But for now, Astrid must mooch back to the mud, and I must head home to wash pig poo off my
    wellies.

I am chuffed to bits to have spent an afternoon with Astrid,
but as I think it all over, on the train back to Marylebone, I know that
I’ll never keep a pig as a pet.

Aside from all the legal red tape, my lack of space in London, and the trickiness of trying to take a
pig for a walk, there’s always the fear that the
micro pig might turn out to be not so tiny after all.

I’ve seen headlines about 4 ounce “teacup” pigs growing bigger than a bear, and frankly I find it terrifying.
So I’ll leave the pet pigs to the celebrities.

  44. A ménage à trois and intimacy outside the bedroom are sexual fantasies that we’ve all heard before.

But what about having sex in a desert, or even a storage unit?
These are just two of the unusual sexual fantasies social
media users have confessed to trying.

A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is a sexual fantasy you do
not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of who bitterly regret their risqué acts.

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked: ‘What is
a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’

Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were some of the most upvoted responses, Huffpost reported.

Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex in the desert at
night when coming back from Vegas. But in reality, they were met with ‘creepy
crawly desert things don’t sleep at night’.

Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend (including her genitals)
in chocolate syrup. But it didn’t end well — she got infected with a ‘crazy’ yeast infection.

Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.
User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates for the night.
Then the people who live there start rustling.’

Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their browser history a reality have confessed they didn’t quite go to plan — a
    thread on Reddit revealed

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429 , who asked:
‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’ (pictured, Dakota Johnson and James Doman in Fifty Shades Darker)

Nationally 55 per cent of Brits reported having sex at
least one a week, this rising to 59 per cent of men and falling to 51 per cent of women

    One commenter u/hot-snake-70 confessed they
found out the hard way that it ‘stings’ if you put
your penis ‘in a glass of red wine’.

Threesomes were also suggested to be a bad idea with user u/Touristupdatenola adding: ‘If I wanted to disappoint two
people simultaneously, I’d have dinner with both my parents.’

Another user u/odysseus-23, warned against trying
to have sex in a library due to the likelihood of getting
    ‘caught on the cameras’.

And while joining the Mile High Club — engaging in sex acts
while aboard an airplane — might sound exciting, some warn that it is anything but.

‘Mile high club. Trust me, these bathrooms are getting smaller and smaller.

And people notice, they always notice,’ u/bigindianenergy29 commented.

  48. Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de
vote à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after
a chaotic election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip
on power, was marred by technical problems.

Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where
Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled
    a “sham” by the opposition.

Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the South West
Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party, in power since Namibia’s 1990
    independence from South africa.

Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.

In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and
mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still in the queues, it
    said.

Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the
electoral commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until
    Saturday evening to vote.

In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen,
about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.

The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

Des électeurs attendent l’ouverture d’un bureau de vote
à Windhoek, le 29 novembre 2024 en Namibie

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he was worried
“everyone will flock to one place again.”

The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with
some calling for a halt in the electoral process.

Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a
joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.

Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence
are challenging support towards SWAPO which has ruled since
    1990.

Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first woman to lead
the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich
    country.

“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley
Engermund, who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.

“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security
    agent.

“It was to get people frustrated.”

  50. Bright and early, my old friend, the beauty and wellness
entrepreneur Liz Earle, is standing at my door clutching a Kilner
jar with what looks like a small sponge floating in murky water.

‘I made kombucha for you,’ she says with an enthusiasm
    I don’t entirely share.

(The sponge, it turns out, is the Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast’, which
is what’s used to ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha.

I don’t realise at the time, but this hideous thing takes weeks to develop and is in fact a very generous gift.)

The truth is, I’d drink (almost) anything if it gave me Liz’s
zip. At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother, she honestly looks 20 years younger.
Fans of her YouTube channel and her 170,000 Instagram followers will know how bright and
smooth her skin is, but in person she is fizzing with energy, too.

Liz and I have been friends for 25 years – over which time she has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as I, nine years her junior, have…
    well, deflated.

Beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right, and Beatrice Aidin met back
in the 1990s when they were both beauty journalists

So here’s my plan. I am going to Live Like Liz for a full eight
weeks, morning to night, to see just how much I, too, can turn back the
    clock.

I am going to eat, drink and exercise like Liz, ‘ground myself’ in a flower bed in my pyjamas like
her, and even tape up my mouth à la Liz. From
my gut to my hormones, my brain to the very cells of my skin, I will follow the ‘bio-hacks’ set out in her new book
A Better Second Half: Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, which swiftly became a bestseller on its release
    this year.

Liz says it can’t fail, so long as I commit to it.

‘Who’s to say we can’t or shouldn’t change the way we age?’ she
    asks.

‘I was stronger, fitter and more capable in my 50s than I was in my 40s, so why can’t I be even more so in my 60s, 70s and beyond?’

Perhaps more significantly, after the ‘car crash of emotional
wreckage’ caused by the breakdown of her second marriage, and
the divorce she went through in 2020, she now says: ‘I’m happier at 61 than I
    was at 40.’

Career-wise, it shows. When we met back in the 1990s we were
both beauty journalists. At launches for new products, I’d merrily down the free Krug while Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Ah Bea, you were the yin to my yang,’ she says.

Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed… and I’m suffering major work anxiety, a not-unrelated financial crisis and severe sciatica.

Frankly, I look and feel knackered. My skin is dull and I have dark circles under my eyes.
Physical pain interferes with my sleep, and I’ve been turning rather too readily
to the sauvignon blanc to help me nod off.

Food is not a priority: I’m either not interested or craving sugar, which means I’m
a good 10lb heavier than I should be.

So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make
me feel as young as she looks? More to the point – can I really stick to it, kombucha and all?

‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…

Liz (left) puts Beatrice through her paces in the gym. Beatrice needs extra help with exercise because of her sciatica

Week one: I face up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s top-line diet philosophy is high-protein, low carb, meaning she’s a fan of lots of foods I
love but didn’t think I should eat: butter, unprocessed meat, avocados, good quality cheese, taramasalata and thick
    Greek yoghurt.

High protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape, and lose
    that middle-aged spread,’ she says.

Timing matters. Liz eats two meals a day – brunch around
11am and dinner at 7pm. The order matters too: clear your plate of chicken before rice,
because eating protein before carbs keeps blood sugar levels stable.

In recent years she has increased her coffee intake (before 2pm) because
studies show four to five cups is ‘strongly associated with living longer’ thanks to the
bioactives in coffee beans such as chlorogenic acid.

She eats wheatgerm, soya beans and nuts to up her intake of spermidine – a dietary molecule that
interacts with our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process called autophagy, which de-ages us
    at a cellular level.

Alcohol is basically a no-no. Liz has the ‘occasional glass’ of wine or tequila, but never more than two and never
    alone.

I chuck out the ready meals and plonk, roll up my sleeves and start cooking from scratch.
I grill venison, roast a chicken and make soups with the leftovers.

Eating at specific times works for me – I’m never very hungry first thing – and enjoying
the protein part of each meal first means I’m fuller and find it
easy to cut back on my carb portions.

Gut health is a big focus, which means more fermented foods.
Much to my surprise, I love the kombucha and soon start to brew my own using Liz’s Scoby.
But homemade kimchi – fermented veg – is a harder sell.
When a lunch guest asks me why I’m forcing myself to eat something I dislike
so much, I reply solemnly: ‘Liz told me to.’

Week two: I discover I can do only 3 press-ups
I really need help with exercise because sciatica means my normal routine has gone to pot.

Thankfully, Liz reckons just ten minutes a day of exercises such as squats,
lunges and press-ups is more valuable in the long term than a high-intensity gym
session once a week or a long park run.

She introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael
Garry, who delivers the (bombshell, but welcome) news that running
any distance over 5k can ‘start to have negative effects’ on our immune system and bone strength.
If you’re a runner, make it harder by speeding up your time, not increasing your distance.

At Michael’s insistence, I consult a physio about my sciatica, and
then he devises a daily regime for me. I try press-ups and make it to three.
Mortifying. Perseverance is clearly key. As are weights,
especially in your 50s. ‘The more muscle you have, the more your
bones are protected from osteoporosis, especially during midlife,’ says Michael.

For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming twice
a week. But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps

For my slack and flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder presses and hammer curls, with 3kg weights in both hands.

I try tricep dips off a chair, and quickly find I can increase my reps – until by week four I’m doing two sets of 15.

I work out three times a week at home. At first the routine
takes 40 minutes but the more I do, the faster I do it,
until the whole thing – stretching, press-ups, weights – takes
    just 20 minutes.

For cardio, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start
to compete with myself, speeding up the laps.

Week three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
I’m menopausal and already on HRT, but I know I could improve how I feel, which is sluggish
    and foggy.

Liz introduces me to something called the ‘estrobolome’ – the specific collection of bacteria in the gut that influences
how our body uses oestrogen. Put simply, some microbes improve the efficiency with which oestrogen reaches tissues around the
body, meaning we use our dwindling supplies more effectively.

The best way to support your estrobolome is by
eating fibre from veg, seeds and nuts, plus some of the low-sugar fruits such as apples, berries and plums.
Back to the supermarket I go.

To boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly mentor insists I finish my
morning shower with a minimum 60-second blast of icy cold water,
resulting – she claims – in a ‘post-shock high’ and ‘genuine glow’.

Hmmm. I find it hard to relinquish the comfort of a hot shower and feel not happy
but mutinous as I step out of the bathroom shivering.

Week four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning and standing barefoot on the grass.
‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the surface
of the Earth to transmit deep into the body, ‘where
    they have an anti-inflammatory effect’.

Liz tells me she does this in the tranquil grounds of her
glorious pile in the West Country. I do it in a flower bed
in my shared patio, still in my pyjamas, and feel, well, very self-conscious.
Later I graduate to the park, and – look away now – tread in dog mess, which does not improve my
    emotional wellbeing.

She also encourages us to keep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal twice a day.
‘Gratitude is… a superpower that improves longevity and supports the immune system,’ she says.

I can’t help but think my better-off mate has rather a lot more to
smile about than me but, following instructions, I write down three things I
am grateful for every morning, and every night a short list of
‘good things’ that happened that day, plus another (longer)
list of ‘things that are concerning me’.

My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts as I find it does make me realise what’s important
and what’s not. It helps me see that things are a lot brighter than I thought.

Packing in a rush for a weekend away, I
can’t find my journal and am surprised by how bereft I
    feel without it.

Week five: I start to sleep well
I’m a night owl – I stay up too late watching TV and
end up hitting my snooze button past 8.30am… and occasionally
    edging towards 10am.

Liz reckons anyone can improve their sleep if they follow her
routine, which means setting an evening alarm for 9pm – to remind
yourself to start ‘winding down for bed’.

Emails, social media and TV are switched off, replaced by a printed book or a podcast.
She takes 120g of magnesium glycinate in a milky drink half an hour before bed (and stops eating two hours before).

Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning

Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to keep warm because she sleeps with an open window, which
she covers with blackout blinds and curtains, and sprinkles her pillow with a few drops of neat lavender essential oil.

I’m an e-book reader, so already failing at this routine.
Still, I leave my phone charging in the kitchen and buy a regular alarm clock.
The lavender oil makes me sneeze, so I spray my pillows with C.
    Atherley Geranium Spray instead.

Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz shows me how when she
delivers the kombucha. Forcing yourself to breathe
through your nose is said to promote more restful sleep.

All of this is time-consuming and takes practise, but I
find the ritual soothing. Five weeks in, I’m getting to sleep earlier than I have for years
    – at 10.30pm after 20 minutes drop-off time -and waking at
    7.30am. How virtuous!

Week six: I crash off the wagon
I’m doing my best, but then I go for lunch with a friend who chirpily suggests
a glass of wine, which turns into a bottle.
And then a second. Later, with a daytime hangover, I head to M&S and find reduced dauphinoise potatoes, which become
    dinner.

Liz has got me on a blood sugar tracker called Lingo (£289 for two months – you jab a biosensor the size and shape of a plastic bottle top into your upper arm, and then link
it to an app on your phone), which shows a massive post-potato spike and then a huge slump, which makes me tired and irritable.
Who knew that such deliciousness had such a
    high glycaemic load?

I call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I have the odd day when I lie in, eat too
much cake and drink too much tequila,’ she says. ‘But that’s fine because you then know
what to do to put it right. It’s not about being perfect.’ Phew!

Week seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal really helps here. By documenting what I was so worried about day by day, my perspective on it changes.

Here, in black and white, is a record of how I felt at the start
of this project and how I’ve evolved.

I’ve come unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy because change is uncomfortable, but I realise there’s simply nothing
to be gained from the worry spiral.

If freelance life is tough, and my income erratic, I’m going to do something about it.
Buoyed with the confidence that comes with action, I apply for part-time admin jobs.
As personal trainer Michael observes as we work out on Zoom, I wouldn’t have done
this before. He’s right. Finally I’ve started to take control.

Week eight: And the winner is…
So how have eight weeks of Living Like Liz changed me?

Physically, I’m in much better shape. I’ve lost 7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off my waist and 11 in off my body as a whole.

Those three pathetic press-ups have become a whopping 40 per workout, and the measly 3kg weights
are now 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition. The sleeveless tops will
be coming out again this party season.

Our essential guide to beating back pain: What’s causing your aches

My skin is clearer, eyes brighter and face more defined because I’ve reduced the carb-inducing bloat.
I’m sleeping better and feeling infinitely less anxious.

Most remarkably – and this is really life-changing – my
sciatica is almost gone and I can come off strong painkillers.

I know sciatica can disappear of its own accord, but the timing is surely no coincidence.
All those exercises have strengthened the muscles
around my spine and buttocks and I’m convinced it’s done the trick.

I meet Liz for lunch, nervous about whether she’ll see a difference.
‘Oh wow,’ she says, taking a good look at her pupil.
‘Those arms! You definitely look younger.’

We chat for a while and she adds: ‘You also seem more content and
optimistic. You have an inner glow and a halo of positivity.’

Well, yes, she would say that, wouldn’t she? (Probably.

Though Liz is known for her candour, so it’s
not a given.) ‘I wasn’t sure you were going to prioritise yourself enough and commit,’ she admits ‘You weren’t an easy nut
    to crack so I’m thrilled.’

I’m delighted with my gold star. And I’m grateful to her, which
is one of the key lessons I’ve learned. Gratitude makes
    everything feel better.

That – along with the kombucha, ice-cold showers (which I
have learned to love) and the odd tequila – are the habits
I’ll hold on to. But not (shudder!) the kimchi or flower beds.

As Liz says, everyone deserves to have a better second half
    – and if I can do it, anyone can.

  54. Joker: Folie À Deux director Todd Phillips ‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during making of the $200million flop film,
    a new report has claimed.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film – stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga and was considered
a surefire hit for Warner Bros Pictures – but was slammed
by critics and failed to ignite at the box office.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process telling Variety he
‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of
the film, with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill
guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.

Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of
the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds
an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%

    by critics

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the
Joker sequel. while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due
    to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran –
who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of
    a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also
met with Phillips  shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022
and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director
would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

The sequel has been roundly criticized for being a musical
and ‘ignoring’ the DC fanbase – with an agent familiar with Phillips’ process telling Variety he
‘wanted nothing to do with DC’ during the making of the film,
with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA
    premiere afterparty last month

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los
    Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to
what the fan expectations are, you’re going
    to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want
to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with
a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to bring the film to Venice.

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night.

It has only made $114million worldwide against its
    $200million budget.

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as ‘bleak’ and ‘disappointing’ — officially released
in theaters on Friday, October 4, but it only raked in $20 million at the domestic box office,
    per The Hollywood Reporter.

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel,
which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role of
    Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore —
the lowest score for a comic book movie.

Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier
this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%.

The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic
box office during the entirety of opening weekend,
    per The Hollywood Reporter.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number
    has since drastically dropped.

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released
in theaters – and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the
    global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences
    – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal
of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional
Academy Award for Best Original Score.

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get
through to Todd. And the one thing about genre stuff: If
you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations
    are, you’re going to fail.

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday
    – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this.
what happened to the script?’ while another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck
    is,’ one typed.

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague, not just covers.
Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the
    original wasn’t a musical.’

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided to
randomly add musical scenes to fill the runtime,’ one penned.

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey staring
    out a window.

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk out of
the cinema,’ while another penned, ‘After years of disagreement….*Joker 2
    releases* Critics [shaking hands] Audience.’

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions over the sequel, which was also a musical

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well,
could have been a good choice. It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator
    Fleck is,’ one typed

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along
with a monkey staring out a window

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores.
‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever.’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.’

‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs were also underwhelming too.
they shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience running to see musicals.
This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be
interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character.

‘It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these
    two films.’

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped an accompanying album titled Harlequin on September 27.

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics,
as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its release
    on Friday.

‘That’s way below what we expected,’ one wrote in regards to the current Rotten Tomatoes scores.
‘People are saying this is the worst sequel ever’

A fan explained, ‘yea this film was bad. it was pretentious and dull.
has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance’

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans, with some claiming Lady Gaga’s
    career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back in the hot seat, critics have said
the sequel is just a ‘repeat’ of the first
hit but with an added musical twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the movie and
claimed she was only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie À Deux didn’t live up to expectations, others have dubbed the movie ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as
‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill.

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker
is best remembered as one of the most subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just
as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a
sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel,
Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with
    her.

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

Joker: Folie À Deux has been branded the ‘most disappointing follow-up to the Oscar-winning movie’ by critics,
as they cast doubt on Lady Gaga’s ‘thin’ role in the film following its
release on Friday; seen in September in London

The Times’ Kevin Maher wrote: ‘The director Todd Phillips said there
would be no follow-up to the original, but he changed his mind and the result is a derivative musical’

‘This might be the most disappointing follow-up to an Oscar-winning performance since Anthony Hopkins reworked his silky and terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy,
    kitschy.’

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel
include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and
    Steve Coogan.

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as they have claimed
that Gaga is running the risk of losing her acting career.
